Maine’s Seaweed Moment follows seaweed farmers Nathan and Natalie Johnson, diving into their world to demonstrate how farmed seaweed can revitalize Maine’s working coastline, improve local ocean habitats, and diversify its economy.

The film explores the qualities that make seaweed a conservation solution and a valuable product, and how expanding farmed seaweed markets can help address local and widespread challenges.

Nick Callanan grew up on the coast of Maine, and as a young river guide, he was the founding editor of No Umbrella - A Reader for River People in the early 00's. Since then he has spent his career helping nonprofits and interesting people share stories with film. Today, he owns a video agency in Portland, Maine where he lives with his family.

Meg first ventured into storytelling at Saint Michael's College in Vermont, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Media Studies, Journalism, and Digital Arts. Since returning to Maine, she’s put her roots down in Portland, where she spends her free time writing, reading, and staying curious.
