BITTER RIVER explores the deadly Mariana dam disaster in Brazil: one of the world’s biggest environmental disasters. Owned & operated by some of the world’s largest corporations, the dam failed due to corporate negligence in late 2015. Mud, metal, and toxic runoff spilled into the Rio Doce (Sweet River) and polluted 415 miles of waterways before finally landing in the Atlantic Ocean. Through victim testimonials and first-hand accounts, Bitter River tracks losses of life, land, and livelihood in the aftermath of tragedy.
