1. Tell us a little bit about who Valentín Mera is and what you did before WSFF.

I’m a storyteller at heart, with over 20 years of experience in production management, and creative strategy. Before joining WSFF, I worked across media and entertainment networks including Viacom, Netflix, MTV, Nickelodeon and NBC Telemundo, where my segment “La Transformación de Valentín Mera” earned an Emmy nomination. I’m also an audio engineer, composer, and producer affiliated with Sony Music and The Orchard, where I’ve contributed music for film and streaming series. Beyond my professional life, I’m a proud dog parent of four and passionate about living with purpose and joy.
2. What was your introduction to Wild & Scenic Film Festival?
I discovered WSFF after relocating to Nevada County. I was immediately drawn to its mission of environmental and social justice through the power of film. It felt aligned with everything I value: activism, creativity, and authentic community.
3. Why were you interested in this role with Wild & Scenic? What are you looking forward to?
The role of Operations Manager offered a chance to combine my professional strengths with a cause I deeply care about. I was excited to contribute to an organization that uses storytelling to inspire real-world action. I look forward to working alongside passionate, visionary people and helping create an unforgettable festival experience.

4. How do you expect your prior experience to impact your new work with Wild & Scenic?
My work across international creative industries has taught me how to turn big visions into tangible results. I bring a mix of logistical precision, artistic sensibility, and leadership that I believe will help strengthen the WSFF experience both behind the scenes and for festival-goers.
5. What has been your favorite film experience? What are some of your favorite films?
Movies have always been a way for me to dream myself into becoming who I truly am. My favorite director is Pedro Almodóvar—All About My Mother, Kika, and Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown are films that shaped my artistic soul. I also love childhood and coming-of-age classics like Big, The Goonies, Dirty Dancing, The NeverEnding Story, Blue Is The Warmest Color, and Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.
6. What do you like to do in your spare time?
I spend a lot of time in my home studio composing and producing music. I also enjoy cooking, writing, road trips, and going on long walks with my four dogs.
7. What are you most excited for in your new role at Wild & Scenic?
I’m most excited to help bring this year’s festival to life with intention and excellence. Being part of something that empowers change through art feels like the perfect alignment of who I am and what I love to do.
