WHO IS THE SCOTT CENTER FOR SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP?

Established in 2014 by President Shannon Hunt-Scott and her husband and co-founder Kevin Scott, the Scott Foundation was borne out of a desire to give back to the Silicon Valley community where they work and raise their family.

Initially focusing on supporting leading-edge organizations addressing critical needs such as childhood hunger, early childhood education, and women and girls in technology, the foundation’s strategy evolved as they gained a deeper understanding of the challenges within the communities they serve. While maintaining deep local giving and partnerships with innovative community leaders in Silicon Valley, the Scott Foundation expanded its efforts to drive impact and create systemic change at the national level. By partnering with organizations developing solutions to community challenges and employing a hands-on, highly personal approach to grantmaking, the foundation has fueled meaningful change in educational equity, social entrepreneurship, civic engagement, and social and reproductive justice.

The Vision of the Scott Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Hillbrook School is to inspire all learners to see the world as it is, imagine what it might be, and partner with communities to realize long-term impact for people and the planet. They have social entrepreneurship as a core subject. They educate learners of all ages to be the best leaders in the world and the best scholars for the world. The Scott Center empowers learners to engage deeply in complex challenges and ignites the changemaker in all students in order to amplify the Hillbrook vision—inspiring students to achieve their dreams and reach beyond themselves to make a difference in the world. In partnership with educators, social impact leaders, and entrepreneurs, the Scott Center seeks to cultivate a collaborative learning community that applies the best practices of social entrepreneurship. The Scott Center believes that building an entrepreneurial mindset requires on-going engagement with the six lenses of social entrepreneurship education: design, story, civics, systems, finance, and agency. On and off campus, they design experiences to deepen the connection to communities locally and globally. They ask big questions and imagine their roles in shaping a more just and equitable world. Through the work of the Scott Center, students gain the confidence to answer and act upon their two guiding questions, what matters to you and what are you doing about it?

HOW THE WILD & SCENIC FILM FESTIVAL HELPS

Haley Hemm, the Program and Community Engagement Lead at Hillbrook School says, “Hillbrook’s Vision 2030 is to make our school a community hub. This is doing just that! The Scott Center’s vision is to inspire all learners to see the world as it is, imagine what it might be, and partner with communities to realize long-term impact for people and planet. Wild & Scenic Film Festival allows us to do that for a large audience in one event!”

Hemm goes on to say that, “I am most excited to see young changemakers’ faces light up with hope and inspiration!”
