For the first time, Great Works Regional Land Trust (GWRLT) will present the Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour at the Leavitt Theatre in Ogunquit, Maine on Sunday, September 22nd. For this inaugural year, they will be presenting a selection of twelve short films entitled, “Water Tales.” The subject of these films will transport their audience across the globe in an exploration of water and its cultural and environmental importance. While these films look beyond their own community, participation will make a great impact right here at home. Proceeds from the event will be used to raise necessary matching funds from state and/or federal grants to build GWRLT’s first ever ADA compliant Universal Access Trail at the Old Boston Preserve. This trail will help connect people of all abilities from across the region with the outdoor experiences we too often take for granted.
They will have new merch/ raffles from local businesses/ and some fantastic water related films on World Rivers Day!
Located in Ogunquit, Maine, Great Works Regional Land Trust (GWRLT) is a member-supported organization providing conservation options to landowners and programs for community members, including 20 preserves with hiking trails. Since 1986, Great Works Regional Land Trust has conserved over 7,600+ acres of natural, historic, agricultural, forestry, scenic and recreational resources across 153 projects and counting.
Great Works Regional Land Trust provides conservation options for landowners in the six southern Maine towns of Eliot, South Berwick, Berwick, North Berwick, Wells, and Ogunquit. A member supported, nonprofit organization, GWRLT’s mission is to conserve the value of their area’s natural, historic, agricultural, forestry, scenic, and recreational resources. GWRLT pursues this mission by holding property and conservation easements where these values are present and by promoting the need and importance of conservation through education and other related activities.
As a member-supported nonprofit, GWRLT makes the most of their supporters’ contributions in many ways, from maintaining hiking trails and conservation areas, to providing conservation options to landowners, and raising federal and state funds.
Through a combination of private donations and grants, Great Works Regional Land Trust already has successfully protected the Bauneg Beg Mountain Recreation Area and will acquire the Salmon Falls Tidal Waters properties. Together, these projects make up the largest fundraising effort the Trust has undertaken by a factor of two.
GWRLT is currently working on over ten additional conservation projects involving over 400 acres of land, in addition to their commitment to stewarding the land and providing accessible community programs. Building upon their past success and tremendous community support, they are seeking public and private funders to help them continue their mission to save these resources—for everyone, forever!
Additionally, GWRLT leads several guided hike opportunities each month.
The GWRLT’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival On Tour Event is a great way for the organization to introduce itself to a new and diverse audience. Attendees will get an introduction to the the history of GWRLT, the important work in which they are engaged, and how they can participate in GWRLT led initiatives and how they can support the organization.
A representative from GWRLT says, “We are thrilled to see the community come together to not support us and the Leavitt Theatre but also to help us fundraise for our first Universal Access trail in GWRLT history. We have an ethical responsibility to increase our accessibility and I’m proud the community is standing behind us in anticipation of this fantastic opportunity for not only the local community, but for visitors from beyond as well.”
