Upstream, Downriver takes viewers into the heart of the battle for water justice. Powerful stories with frontline community activists are interwoven with historical context about landmark regulations that significantly reduced water pollution in the U.S. but failed to serve disadvantaged communities that are hardest hit by today’s climate crisis.
Maggie Burnette Stogner is an award-winning documentary filmmaker and the Executive Director of the Center for Environmental Filmmaking at American University in Washington D.C., http://www.environmentalfilm.org/. She was a Senior Producer at National Geographic TV & Film where she produced films around the world. Through her production company Blue Bear Films, http://www.bluebearfilms.com/, she has produced and directed films for broadcast, streaming, world-touring museum exhibits, as well as outstanding independent documentaries that focus on issues of environmental justice and equity. She is an executive member of Women in Film & Video, on the Advisory Council of the DC Environmental Film Festival, and a judge for the Emmys, Jackson Wild, and other festivals. She earned her graduate degree from Stanford University, Documentary Filmmaking program.
