In New York’s Adirondack Mountains, a small group of Mohawks occupied a defunct girls camp in 1974 and asserted aboriginal title to the land. The eventual deal they reached with the State of New York represents one of the earliest examples of an indigenous people successfully reclaiming land in the United States.

Mike Bradley is a former newspaper photographer for clients including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg. His documentary work explores subjects including indigenous land issues, addiction, and the criminal justice system.
