Friends of Butte Creek held their most recent Wild & Scenic Film Festival a few days ago on October 26, screening 14 films such as Becoming, Blue Carbon, For the Love of Salmon, Tracking Snow, and Your Rivers Need You, among many others.
The organization was formed in 1999 out of the need to make information about the Centerville Project more accessible to the public in an effort to ensure its benefits were being justified as stated. Perhaps most importantly, the Friends wanted to protect the habitats of the fish and riparian environments of both Butte Creek and the West Branch of the Feather River.
It has a number of current projects on track and has partnered with a number of high-profile environmental stewardship organizations, including Wild & Scenic Film Festival National Partner Earthjustice, to advance its mission and, ” … ensure that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Pacific Gas and Electric, and the state and federal agencies do everything possible to recover salmon and steelhead in the most expeditious manner.”
