Filmmaker FAQ
FAQ for Accepted Filmmakers
Congratulations! Your film has been accepted into the 22nd annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival! We seriously could not be more excited to share your film with our audiences here in Nevada City and Grass Valley, CA. We want to make sure you know what’s going on, what you can expect from us, and what we expect from you. Read through the following FAQs, then if you have lingering questions let us know!
Filmmaker FAQ
Q: How do I find out more about getting my film into the On Tour program?
A: The Wild & Scenic Film Festival, held each winter in Nevada City, California is a kick-off for Wild & Scenic On Tour which travels to more than 200 communities and continues to grow every year. We think the films are too good, and the messages too powerful, to keep them to ourselves! The films are curated by our film festival team from the larger pool of Official Selections. Choices are made based on a variety of criteria, but you will hear directly from us in November if your film has been selected.
Q: When and where is my film screening?
A: The program and interactive schedule will be available on our website by mid-January.
Q: If I want to attend the festival, how many complimentary tickets do I receive and is there a possibility to purchase additional tickets at a discount?
A: Each film is entitled to the following:
- Two complimentary tickets to your film’s in-person screening.
- Two complimentary filmmaker badges for use at the in-person festival
*To guarantee seating in the sessions you want to attend, we highly recommend using the Eventive platform to reserve all of your tickets in advance. This will guarantee you a seat (though not a specific one) as long as you arrive more than 15 min before the session, and give you priority access. Otherwise you may have to wait in line, and even then not get admitted (this does not apply for your film’s screening).
- You also have the option to purchase two extra festival passes at a 20% discount.
As a fundraiser for an environmental non-profit organization (South Yuba River Citizens League), we have to limit the number of passes and tickets we distribute at no cost, especially in these challenging times. Thank you so much for your support and participation!
Q: What sort of awesome events do you have planned for attending filmmakers?
A: Not only will you have access to our Filmmakers’ Lounge all weekend long (which will provide you with free WiFi, food, beverages, and a swell spot to chill), but you are also invited to the Arts Reception and Awards on Thursday evening, the Welcome Ceremony on Friday evening, and the Filmmakers’ Party on Saturday night! More information will be provided in your filmmaker packet. On top of these events, the festival is a buzz of activity with many panel discussions, workshops, coffee chats, art shows, and excursions.
Q: If I requested complimentary lodging in the home of a local resident, when will I find out about my accommodations?
A: You will be notified of your homestay arrangements in January. The deadline for complimentary accommodation in the home of a local host is December 12. If you do not submit your housing requests before December 12, we can’t guarantee that we will be able to find you accommodation. If your plans change after you’ve submitted your Attending Filmmaker Form, please let us know as soon as possible.
Q: I’m flying! How can I get from the airport to Nevada City without spending a fortune?
A: There are lots of car rental places at the Sacramento airport, and Super Shuttle offers shuttle service to Nevada City. It’s not the most streamlined system, but you can take Amtrak to Colfax or to Auburn (both about 30 minutes away), and the Gold Country Stage offers bus service from Auburn. We will arrange a limited number of shuttles, but you will need to let us know your transportation details no later than December 12 in order for us to accommodate you.
Q: Am I able to speak in conjunction with my film screening?
A: Of course! Typically, we allot about 5 minutes for filmmakers to speak after their films screen. Please check in with your emcee no later than 15 minutes prior to the beginning of your session(s). If it is not readily apparent who your emcee is, try to find the venue coordinator (an in charge-looking individual with a headset!)
With so many makers and activists in attendance, we try to limit speaking times and make sure we stick to them in order to ensure everyone has a fair chance to speak. If you have a special circumstance, please coordinate with the Festival Coordinator directly about your speaking times.
Q: Can I table somewhere with more materials relevant to my film?
A: Please! At each venue there will be a location available for filmmakers to set up materials before and after sessions. Again, please keep in mind that we are an environmental film festival and do not recommend having an excess of printed materials. Please keep them at a minimum.
Q: When do we find out if our film has won an award?
A: The awards ceremony will occur at the Filmmakers’ Party on Saturday, February 15, starting at 9:30pm. More information will be sent to you in the filmmaker orientation email.
